Name and lineage:
He is Hussein, the son of the Prince of Believers Ali bin' Abi Talib bin' Abd Elmutalib bin' Hashim bin' Abd' Munaf bin' Qusai Elqereshi El-Hashimy, the third of the twelve infallible Imams, his mother was Fatima, the greatest Of all women ever witnessed on Earth, the daughter of the prophet Mohammed, (the messenger of Allah). Hussein's epithet was Aba Abdullah, and some of his surnames were: martyr, paragon, wronged, stranger, rational, the master of the youth of paradise and the flower of the prophet of Allah.
His Birth:
He was born in Medina on the third of Sha'ban (August) 4th year A.H. His age & period of Imamate: Imam Hussein (p.b.u.h) lived fifty eight years, he lived seven years with his grandfather the messenger of Allah, lived thirty seven years with his father the prince of believers and forty seven years with his brother Imam Hassan, (p.b.u.h), and the period of his caliphate was eleven years after his brother's.
His virtues:
He is the third of the twelve infallible Imams, one of the five persons wrapped in the cloak of the prophet (As'hab Elkisa'). he was one of the five persons the Christians of Najran tried to curse, he is one of the two masters of the youth of paradise with his brother, and some of his virtues are that the infallible Imams were his descendants, supplication under his dome is absolutely accepted, Allah made the soil of Kerbala where he is buried cure, and whoever cries over him, Allah would forgive him for his sins.
His martyrdom:
Imam Hussein (p.b.u.h) had been martyrized wronged, by thirst, patient and waiting for the recompense of Allah, on the tenth of Muharram the sixty first year of A.H. after noon prayer.
